We are keen to meet with you to discuss your needs and identify the appropriate treatment but in the interim, here is some more information about modern dental veneers which you may find useful. If there is anything we can do to help, please call us for more information and we look forward to seeing you soon.
Dental veneers are usually made from either porcelain or composite and following shaping into a wafer thin layer, they are used to replace the discoloured or damaged front enamel of a patient’s teeth.
Whilst perhaps best known for creating a whiter, straighter smile, veneers can also be used for chipped or cracked teeth and even for minor orthodontic purposes in some cases (closing gaps).
Composite veneers can be moulded and placed directly onto your teeth whilst you are in the treatment studio or alternatively designed off-site at a dental laboratory to a precise set of your own measurements. Porcelain veneers, on the other hand, are generally produced at a dental laboratory and then fitted at a subsequent visit to The Kent Smile Studio.
Porcelain dental veneers offer patients both a practical and aesthetically pleasing solution for restoring the appearance of their teeth as well as contouring for teeth that have become discoloured, worn or chipped.
The process – porcelain veneers
Following an initial consultation, our cosmetic dentist will take measurements, x-rays and photograph the teeth in order for the new porcelain veneers to be made to your own specification.
Once your new veneers have been made in the laboratory and returned to our Maidstone dental practice, we will prepare the surface of your teeth so that they can be fitted accurately and securely.
This process involves the removal of an equivalent thickness of the enamel from the front of the tooth, and then cleaning and etching it to ensure a strong fit. This preparation ensures that your new veneers will both appear natural and be bonded securely to create a great new smile which, with care, should last a long time.
Advantages of composite / porcelain veneers
Generally lasting between five to ten years, porcelain veneers are a more durable solution when compared to composite. With the continued supervision of our experienced cosmetic dental team, we will work with you to help you to maintain the condition of your veneers and help preserve your new, natural-looking smile.
