Smile Enhancement in Maidstone - Smile Makeover
Cosmetic dentistry and dental veneers, as seen on ‘Ten Years Younger’ and ‘Extreme Makeover’
Increasingly, people are no longer settling for discoloured or crooked teeth but are making use of the cosmetic dental procedures available at Kent Smile Studio to give them a great smile and regain the lost confidence.
There are a number of ways in which this can be achieved, and, following an initial consultation, we will develop a smile makeover plan to bring out the best in your smile.
Whilst a tooth whitening procedure is effective on some discoloured and otherwise even teeth, porcelain or composite veneers offer more flexibility in providing both whiter and straighter teeth.
Porcelain / Composite Veneers
In most cases, fitting porcelain dental veneers involves just two visits to our Maidstone dental practice; however this will depend on the complexity of your own situation and in a few cases, may require extra visits. This will be discussed with you in detail at the initial consultation.
The veneers themselves are made from a very fine, tooth shaped layer of ceramic material or filling material which is then bonded to the front of a prepared tooth.
They can be used, not only to provide beautiful white teeth, but also to correct the shape or arrangement of your teeth. Some even refer to dental veneers as “instant orthodontics” in that they really can straighten your smile extremely quickly without the need for braces.
In terms of longevity, the filling, ceramic or porcelain material used for veneers is highly stain resistant and should provide you with a white smile for years to come.
Diagnosis and treatment planning
A full consultation plays a key role in ensuring a successful outcome to the placement of the veneers and a clear discussion will be held between dentist and patient to understand both requirements and expectations.
During the first visit, impressions will be taken of your teeth which are used by the dental laboratory to help create your new smile. This process is sometimes referred to as a ‘wax up’.
The patient will be able to select the appropriate shade of the new veneer at this stage and any gum hygiene issues may also be addressed.
Visual diagnostic try-in
This is an optional appointment where the patient is able to preview an expected outcome before having any treatment. This is done through the use of a plastic material, made from the wax up which is then applied to the patient’s mouth; in effect a simulation of the final result.
Preparation and fitting
Following the impression and shortly before your veneers are due to be returned from the laboratory, we will prepare your teeth ready for the new veneers to be attached.
This is done via the removal of an equivalent thickness of enamel from the front of the teeth. Temporary plastic veneers will then be fitted for the short period whilst waiting for the new veneers, in order to protect the prepared teeth.
